PS2 Mod FAQ's |
||
| Is it legal to chip a PS2 and what does a chip do for me? | ||
| sept-2004 - It is NOT currently legal to modify PS2 consoles with chips. This is an issue that has been going on for some time but right now it is absolutely illegal. However there are still some small outfits breaking the law if you really want to chip your PS2 console. Chipping a PS2 console primarily allows you to play copied (burnt) versions of the original game disk and would also usually allow the console to play games and DVD's from other regions different to your own. | ||
| Is it legal to add a HD loader kit to my PS2 and what will it do for me? | ||
| YES! - The reason for this is that no chip is used in the process. The down side is copied games and other region games/DVD's require a chip to work BUT, on the upside HD loader allows you to put the original game data directly on to the added hard drive inside the PS2. Effectively this allows you to play games that are stored on the PS2 with out using the original disk to make it work. Game disks can be stored for safe keeping safely away from dirty fingers and scratchy surfaces forever because you will not have to use them again. | ||
| Will a HD loader kit void my PS2 warranty? | ||
| NO! - This is another up side of the HD loader kit. This kit fits nicely into the expansion port of the PS2 and therefore does not require the console to be opened at any time, unlike soldering in a mod chip. | ||
| Can I install my HD loader kit myself? | ||
| YES! - This process is relatively simple to do your self but we do still offer onsite service in most metro areas where we can come and install the kit for you. | ||
| How many games can I store with the HD loader kit? | ||
| This is totally dependent on the size of the hard drive you use and what games you are going to install. To give you an idea, PS2 games vary in size between 300MB and 6GB with the average being between 1GB and 2GB (newer games tend to be larger). With this in mind, a 120GB Hdd for example would hold between 50 and 80 games. The standard PS2 does not have a hard drive so you can choose the size that best suits your needs. Common sizes are 80GB and 120GB. | ||
| How much does this kit cost? | ||
| Prices vary considerably as does most computer equipment so please contact you local dealer for a quote on the HD loader kit and the size of hard drive you would like to install. | ||
